The great challenge of ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered was to be the first modern race boat that goes around the world without an internal combustion engine to charge the batteries.

This is the challenge I was held within the framework of the toughest sailing competition in the world, around the world solo without climbing, the Vendee Globe.

The challenge was achieved by building the first IMOCA sailing yatch driven only by renewable energy and the sails.

On board the  yuacht there was solar panels, hydro- generagtor, wind turbines and hydrogen fuel cell. All these systems feeed a lithium battery.

Marcos Rupérez was responsible for the hydrogen system ob board this yatch wich consist on hydrogne presure vessels and fuel cell power system conected to a electric auxiliar propulsion motor and the main energy system.
